Coquille River Lighthouse
Bandon, Oregon


This lighthouse is located in the coastal dairy town of Bandon, Oregon. it was proposed in 1891 but because of a land ownership dispute, construction was delayed until 1895 and lit for the first time in 1896.

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse
Newport, Oregon


This lighthouse is located in Newport, Oregon. It was built in 1871 and decommissioned in 1874. Some say that it was built in the wrong place and was replaced by Yaquina Head lighthouse just north of the Yaquina Bay.

Cape Blanco Lighthouse
Port Orford, Oregon


This, the Southernmost Oregon lighthouse is located in Cape Blanco State Park in Port Orford Oregon. It is also the oldest original lighthouse on the coast, proposed in 1864 and lit for the first time in 1870.

This lighthouse is located in Winchester, Oregon. It was proposed in 1851 and lit for the first time in 1857.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse
Newport, Oregon


This lighthouse is located just north of Newport Oregon on the Yaquina Head prominence. Construction was started in 1871 and lit in 1873 after delays from a severe winter that caused boats carrying cargo to be overturned in the surf... to the loss of parts required to complete the assembly of the light.

Battery Point Lighthouse
Crescent City, California


Battery Point is located at Crescent City, Northern California. In May of 1855, Congress appropriated $15,000 for the construction of a lighthouse on the tiny islet, which is connected to Battery Point by an isthmus at low tide. The light was lit December 10, 1856. It is a Cape Cod style lighthouse, with the tower located in the center of the structure. It's Fresnel lens light was turned off in 1965, replaced by a modern beacon, until 1982 when it was again lit as a private navigation aid.

Cape Arago Lighthouse
Charleston, Oregon


Located near Coos Bay, this Lighthouse is actually the third lighthouse structure to be located at Cape Arago. The first was lit in 1866, the second in 1909 and the present lighthouse was lit in 1934. Cape Arago lighthouse is controlled by the Coast Guard and is inaccessible to the public. Chief Island and parts of the nearby mainland are sacred to the local Indians because of the occupation of that area by their ancestors.

Cape Meares Lighthouse
Tillamook, Oregon


Cape Mears Lighthouse was constructed in 1890 on a 200 foot cliff just south of Tillamook. The lighthouse is only 38 feet tall. It has been said that the light was built in the wrong place and was supposed to have been built at Cape Lookout because of an error on a map. By the time the mistake had been discovered, the lighthouse was almost finished. It was used until 1963.

Tillamook Rock Lighthouse
Cannon Beach, Oregon


Tillamook Rock Lighthouse is built on a small rock island just off of Tillamook Head between Seaside and Cannon Beach. Original plans for a lighthouse 1000 feet above on Tillamook Head were changed when it was realized the the light would be obscured by fog. The little island was later chosen and the dangerously painstaking chore of building a lighthouse on the rock began. After many setbacks and accidents the light was finally lit in 1881. Duty at Tillamook Rock was dangerous with storms battering the lighthouse. She gained the nick name "Terrible Tilly". The light was decommissioned in 1957.

Heceta Head Lighthouse
Florence, Oregon


Heceta Head was named for Don Bruno Heceta of the Spanish Navy who made note of the prominance as he traveled North along the coastline in 1775. Coquille River Lighthouse is located in Florence, Oregon. It was proposed in 1888 and lit for the first time in 1894.
